3rd XI on top form

RD4SW Sway III 154ao, Verwood II 135ao. Sway won by 19 runs

Sway's U14 Hampshire start David Steadman took a superb wicket haul as a superb all round performance by the 3rd XI gave them a deserved victory over Verwood II at Potterne Park.

Sway batted first and scored a very respectable 154-9 on a difficult batting wicket. There were decent contributions from Mark Wright (15), Dan Stevenson (20), FJ Charton (15) and Jack Baughan (24), however the start with the bat was the much improved Sam Harvey who batting at number 8 scored 48 not out much some of which came in a 32 run partnership for the 9th wicket with David Steadman.

In reply with the ball Harvey took first blood bowling the Verwood opener with the score on just 8. Verwood recovered from this early setback and took the score onto 113-4 - seeming a winning position. Sway however took the final 6 wickets for just 22 runs leaving A Richmond stranded for Verwood not out on 60. It was left to David Steadman to wrap up the match and his 5th wicket for just 23 runs off 8.2 overs. Also impressive with the ball was Andy Hillyar who put in his finest spell of bowling in quite a while to finish with 2 wickets for 14 runs off 9 overs.
