2nd XI in last over heartbreak
RD4SW: Sway 155-9. Burley II 156-5. Sway lost by 5 wickets
|
Sway batted first and got off to a poor start when club leading run scorer continued his inevitable descent towards the thirds with a duck. With the score on just 6 Sway lost a second wicket when the out-of-form Henry Thornton was dismissed for just 2. Sway however settled down and opener Steve Keen and Rick How put on 36 for the 3rd wicket. How continued his good run of form going onto to top score with 39 and there were further decent knocks from Ross Clark (16) and Tony Owen (23) . At 121-5 Sway seemed to be on course for a pretty decent total however 3 wickets were lost for just 4 runs and it was only a last wicket stand between returning hero John Wills (18*) and Steve Drayton (9*) that allowed Sway to post a defendable total of 155-9. In response Sway got off to a great start with Burley struggling on just 7 for 3 - with 2 wickets to Steve Drayton and one to Matt Bramwell. However a partnership between C Searle and B Stratton put on 60 for the 4th wicket before Stratton was stumped by Pete Bennett again off the bowling of Drayton. Seale however started a new partnership of 77 with M Brooks which was not broken until Brooks was bowled by John Wills with the score on 144. With wickets on hand Burley were able to taken chances and whilst the game went down to the final over, were able to wrap up the win with a couple of balls to spare. |
