3rd XI put to the sword by Centurions

Centurions 256-8, Sway 139 all out - Sway lost by 117 runs

The 3rd XI started their new season playing this year at Pennington and with a new captain in Andy Glasspool. Up first were recently relegated Centurions who made a good start batting first, however, with the score at 83 - 5 in the 18th over, honours were fairly even.  However early dropped catches were to prove crucial and further catches went down during a 151 run partnership between M.Butcher (76) and M.Gibbs (72). Both of these players were dismissed by Gary Rapjohns who ended up with 4 - 51 off his 10 overs, as Centurions closed out at an impressive 256 - 8. James Howard 1-41, Andy Hillyar 1-57 and Mark Wright 1-48 plus a run out also took wickets and Glasspool chipped in with a catch and stumping.

Sway's reply was dominated by former colts Charles Sugden and Will Baughan but the final total could only reach 139 resulting in a heavy 117 run defeat. Sugden batting at number four hit 7 fours in a pleasing knock of 41 and Baughan only occasionally playing like father Chris hit a polished 31 not out with Glasspool (14) also reaching double figures. Surprisingly considering the length of the tail only Rapjohns and Sam Harvey (golden) joined Dave Marshall's already crowded Duckometer, leaving the new skipper happy enough with the first game although things like catching and conceding wides (34) will have to be addressed.
