2nd XI lose out in thriller

Put into bat at Kings Park, Sway made steady progress against the veteran Parley duo of Mark Rushworth and Andy Thompson before Tony Owen at number three hit a rapid 41 with seven boundaries plus a six. When he was dismissed amongst a small flurry of wickets the score stood at 101 - 5 and it was left to youngsters Robert Steadman and F.J.Charton to consolidate the innings. This they attained with a 52 run partnership with Charton falling for 24 trying to bludgeon the returning Thompson ( 2 - 23 ) out of the ground, however Steadman went serenely on to finish unbeaten on 52 with Parley captain Mark Barber taking 3 - 48.

Parley's reply started aggressively with J.Edwards hitting a quick 37 before being caught and bowled by Matt Bramwell with the score at 49, Steve Drayton removed the other opener D.Jarvis-Niell at the same score. The innings now centered around Andy Trapp who made 53 runs losing 2 partners run out by the cat like Dave Hurrell at point before he became one of 4 wickets for Matthew Brearley and with Steadman also picking up a wicket the last over arrived with 9 runs required and the last pair batting. Barber scrambled a single of the second ball before number 11 Thompson hit successive fours to gain a narrow victory for Parley in an exciting match. For Sway Matt Brearley was the pick of the bowlers with 4-39 although both Steadman and Matt Bramwell bowled well.
