Sway off to 20/20 cup flier

Adam Clark's 20/20 cup side got to a flying start with a convincing win at Bransgore.

Sway batted first on the Bransgore artificial wicket with the opening pair showing contrasting styles. Alex Hall has on his most aggressive form hammering an unbeaten 52 including "4s" and 3 "6s". At the other end Ross Clark in his first outing of the year provided more orthodox support and looked relatively untroubled until he was bowled by C Taylor for 14.

Clark's dismissal brought Joe Rodway to the crease who along with Hall proceeded to lay into the Bransgore bowling scoring a quick fire 30 hitting 3 maximums including a huge straight hit out of the ground and across the road.
All Hall - top scorer with a rapid unbeaten half century.

When Hall retired on 50 Sway were scoring at 10 an over - Dave Marshall came to the crease with the intention of maintaining the momentum but added his second duck of the season when an big attempted pull to a ball down leg side deflected off his pads onto the stumps. With Rodway eventually bowled, Stevie how and Jon Grasham found themselves together at the crease. As they looked to push on, How was unlucky to be run out in slightly bizarre circumstances - Grasham lost his bat whilst running , sent Steve Back leaving him in no mans land. Grasham went on to score a relatively untroubled 43 runs before eventually gloving a ball to the keeper..

With the score piling up, debutant James Woolgar made a quick fire 16 before being bowled, and as the overs ran out Sway threw the bat at the ball. Adam Clark drove the ball to mid-off for 2, Tony Owen was bowled, also for 2 leaving Steve Thistleton (6no) and Charlie Smith (3no) to bring the innings to a close with Sway having scored 186 for the loss of 8 wickets.

Bransgore started the run chase needing a seemingly impossible 9.35 an over, however after a steady start battled back to make a game of it. Steve Thistleton started with a tidy line before straying slightly to record 0 for 24 his 4 overs. At the other end Charlie Smith although wayward at times, did enough with the ball to trouble the Bransgore batsmen taking two wickets, both bowled for 32 runs of his 4 overs.

For Bransgore, J Page remained untroubled and by the time James Woolgar came on to bowl was in full flow and hammered Woolgar for 3 boundaries off his first over. Steve How was then battered out of the attack with 17 coming off his one and only over. However the experienced Woolgar however bounced right back hitting the stumps twice in his next over and claiming the wicket of Page's dangerous partner, Sam Bew.

With Page retiring on 50 the run rate dropped and Sway were back in control after a little wobbled. Jon Grasham came on to steady the ship with quick and accurate bowling with figures of 1-18 including the only maiden of the day. Grasham's aggression destroyed his boots, he then proceed to rip a hole in Dave Marshall's boots leaving him to field barefoot!

With the game won Alex Hall set out the buffet table with a couple of over of spin and  Adam Clark added a couple of tasty hors d'oeuvres before undeservedly claiming a wicket off the last ball of the innings leaving Bransgore on a total of 143-6 with Sway winning by 43 runs.
