Season Review - 1999

The Season that never was....

Simon Baker was appointed as captain for 1999 however the lack of new players plus a reluctance to select any of the colts if short of numbers meant that amid acrimony and recriminations the club was split asunder and nearly folded. Separate factions within the club moved to local rivals, either  Burley or Pylewell Park. The remaining Sway senior players, of whom Steve Keen and Dave Hurrell are the only current players, we forced to withdraw from New Forest Division One .

Nevertheless the future, in embryonic form, was taking shape in the newly formed colts section where Keen and Hurrell were, along with others we developing the youngsters as well as preparing the wicket at Pitmore Lane. Midweek cricket for Colin Hampton at Pennington and a couple of League appearances along with Andy Hillyar were made for Hordle 2nds.

It was while playing a midweek match against legendary hitter Jim Lowe that the idea of reforming the Adult side was first muted and at the next Colts meeting a new Committee was formed with Lowe as Chairman, Keen as the Secretary and Hurrell as Treasurer with the club accepted back into New Forest Division 4 for the 2000 season.

Meanwhile the Colts were progressing nicely with a teams at under 13 and under 11, many of them to feature prominently in the coming years.
