Season Review - 1997

With the astute Norman Wilkie again in charge Sway enjoyed an excellent League campaign finishing in third place and securing promotion to New Forest League Division One, the main strength lay in the bowling attack with the 71 points achieved being the highest in the division. There were 5 games played in a dry May the team winning 3 by dismissing Lymington 4th's for 97, Alderholt 2nd's for 39 and Ordnance Survey 2nd's for 87, Carl Osborne took 6-14 and Dick Page 4-18 at Alderholt with Osborne 5-25 and Dave Gooding 5-10 routing OSO.

June opened with Martin Wood hitting 56 in a total of 179 against Minstead before Osborne 7-8 and Page 3-14 cleaned up Minstead for 22, with 9 opponents bowled and the other lbw it was an easy day for fielding. A 3 run loss to Hordle followed and the only other defeats came against Downton 2nd's and a drubbing from champions Cranborne, although Esso 3rd's who finished in 2nd place were beaten Simon Baker making 54 with Baker also scoring 53 n.o versus Ringwood.

There was the usual mix of cup, friendlies and midweek league matches with mixed fortunes.
